Bring your beach blanket, pack a picnic lunch. Friends, Spouses or anyone who is interested in seeing the Centuries Old - Sunken Forest are welcome. This is a rare ecological community of maritime holly forest found behind the sand dunes. According to the NY National Heritage Program, the Sunken Forest was ranked as “globally rare,” meaning there are few remaining occurrences of this assemblage of plants throughout the world.
We will take a walking tour of this special habitat knows as the Sunken Forest.
Ferry cost to Sailor‘s Haven/Sunden Forest from Sayville Ferry is $18 PP round Trip. Parking fee of $12. Carpool is suggested.
