Tour of Sagtikos Manor

A Stroll Through Long Island History

On June 2, members enjoyed a guided tour of historic Sagtikos Manor in Bay Shore. The tour highlighted the estate’s rich history, including the manor house, originally built in 1697 and expanded in 1772 and 1902. Led by tour guide Celeste Topazio, members strolled through the walled garden, admiring a long border of heritage peonies, grapevines, and other perennial plantings, and were treated to a first-floor tour of the manor, which remains remarkably intact in its original condition. The outing was arranged by Kate Flore.

Improve Your Floral Photography
with Tips from a Pro

On July 14 from 6 to 8 p.m., photographer and visual storyteller Steve Caputo will join us at Harborfields Library to speak about photographing botanicals and nature. Steve has spent a lifetime capturing the beauty and wonder of the world through his camera lens. His work ranges from flowers, landscapes, seascapes, and urban scenes to vintage vehicles, often employing creative techniques to create impressionistic, emotion-filled images. Describing himself as a journalist of the natural world rather than an artist, he seeks to reveal the beauty, hope, and joy that surround us every day, creating photographs that resonate deeply with viewers and inspire them to see the world with fresh eyes. This event is open to the public.
